Continuing Care Retirement Communities (CCRC)

A Flexible Option for Senior Living

After decades of building a life around family and career, many seniors look forward to the free time of the retirement years to enjoy traveling, hobbies or to just slow down a bit and do more with friends and loved ones. During this transitional period, many seniors consider making a move from their family home to a senior living community. At this point in life, it can be comforting to settle into a new, permanent home that fits the unique needs of older adults, with the goal of not having to move again.

If this sounds like the stage you or a family member are entering, it’s a good time to consider a continuing care retirement community (CCRC). This type of senior-living community provides a full range of living and medical care options, all at the same location, allowing flexibility as needs change without having to relocate.

Memorial Hermann’s University Place Senior Living Community has been a trusted choice of Houston’s senior community for 35 years. With a continuum of care available to accommodate changing needs, residents can make University Place their home for today and tomorrow, even if their health conditions or level of independence changes.

What is a Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC)?

A continuing care retirement community (CCRC) is a residential facility for senior adults that includes a variety of housing and health care options for changing needs during the later years of life. Many seniors begin their CCRC journey with independent living in their own apartment with access to amenities like dining services, activity centers and social outings. If health care needs change and more assistance is needed, residents can receive more supportive services in the same location. University Place has the staff and resources to assist and care for residents with varying needs:

Benefits of a CCRC

Residents can expect a comfortable living environment with onsite services and amenities designed to make daily living simpler and more enjoyable. University Place provides round-the-clock staff and complimentary perks to meet almost any need. With independent living, seniors enjoy restaurant-style dining, weekly linen service, complimentary health and wellness memberships, and transportation services.

If health needs change, the next level of onsite care are available for residents. Personal assistance services, including help with grooming, bathing, medication management or housekeeping, can provide significant relief on a temporary basis after an illness, while allowing seniors to stay in their home. Subsequent levels of care are also available. Seniors who need 24/7 care can remain at University Place in either the skilled nursing or long-term acute care facilities.

Independent Senior Living

University Place makes it easy for retired adults to enjoy the freedom of independent living in their retirement years. With our unique location, residents are able to enjoy a multitude of cultural and recreational activities that Houston, TX provides.

Benefits such as prepared meals and housekeeping services give residents the freedom to concentrate on such things as education, hobbies, recreation, family or travel. The security and comfort of University Place minimize day-to-day worries.

Skilled Nursing at the University Place Nursing Center

The University Place Nursing Center is appropriate for patients that require 24/7 care from a team of specialists. This includes patients that need skilled nursing for a short time, while recovering from an illness or surgery, or for patients that need a long-term option to recuperate or adjust to permanent changes to their health. The facility serves as a transitional location between the hospital and the patient's permanent residence, and provides access to various therapies, treatments and equipment that can help with rehabilitation, or until certain recovery goals are met.

Personal Assistance Services

University Place's Personal Assistance Services (PAS), helps residents within their own homes on a temporary or short-term basis.

Return Residents to Their Active Lifestyles

PAS, in the short-term, is designed to quickly return residents to their active lifestyles and then provide further support in the long-term.
