CNO Introduction

The rehabilitation process for patients and families is a journey. The rehabilitation nurse is a vital part of that journey, where we strive to help patients adapt to a new normal. Nurses who are drawn to the field of rehabilitation desire to help people regain the skills and confidence they need to reintegrate into the community and continue living full and meaningful lives. We work to maximize independence, restore function and improve the quality of life for our patients. Simply put, we’re one of the best at getting the patient back to the life they love.

Nurses find a wealth of opportunity at TIRR Memorial Hermann. If you’re a new graduate or are new to inpatient rehabilitation, we provide a solid support structure to help you navigate your first year and gain competency in rehabilitation through the Nurse Residency Program and the Nursing Rehabilitation Academy. If you’re an experienced neuroscience nurse, we’ll help you hone your practice by investing in ongoing education and professional development, and providing support for pursuing advanced degrees and advanced certifications in your specialty. If you’re interested in research, you’ll find opportunities to advance evidence-based practice in our specialty.

We’re fortunate to work at an institution where physicians and leaders are supportive of nursing. We’ve set quality metrics for ourselves and met them, which has instilled a sense of professionalism in our team. If you’re looking for an environment where nurses, physicians and other health care providers have moved beyond traditional practice barriers to true collaboration, who are working together to advance neuroscience, please join us! If you’re looking for an environment where nurses, physicians, therapists and other health care providers have moved beyond traditional practice barriers to true collaboration, and who are working together to advance rehabilitation, please join us!

Rehabilitation Nursing

Rehabilitation nurses help patients and families with healing, repair, and recovery. Rehabilitation is a lifelong journey and a person with a disability has abilities and many possibilities and the role of a rehabilitation nurse is to nurture those abilities and possibilities in order for our patients to become the best versions of themselves. Learn more about the journey here.

TIRR Nursing in the Community

Annually, TIRR Memorial Hermann invites a group of high school students into our facilities for a day of learning and inspiration in collaboration with CompassRN. The nonprofit organization connects youth in historically under sourced areas to health education and the field of nursing. Students visit stations covering various aspects of care and interact with health care professionals to learn about their roles and responsibilities. We are proud to support programs like these to support the next generation of health care professionals.
