Knowing your risk is the first step to preventing breast cancer. The Breast Cancer Prevention Program at Memorial Hermann is dedicated to caring for women who are at high risk for developing breast cancer. Currently, the average lifetime risk of a woman developing breast cancer is 1 in 8. While some risks are inherited, navigating your family history alongside leading a healthy lifestyle can reduce your risk of breast cancer. It’s also important to follow recommended screening guidelines and to work with your provider to start screening earlier if you are at higher risk.
Memorial Hermann is committed to providing you with timely access to breast cancer prevention specialists, care coordination and the support to make informed decisions about your health. We offer individualized assessment, care planning and education you need to help you understand your risk for developing breast cancer. Our committed team of affiliated physicians, nurses, nutritionists, genetic counselors and breast care nurse navigators will work together to guide you through your journey. The Breast Cancer Prevention team will design a personalized care plan based on your individual risk. Our goal is to be proactive in your health so that we can prevent cancer before it starts.
We offer complimentary access to a Nurse Navigator, who serves as your main point of contact throughout your care. The Nurse Navigator provides services that combine knowledge and skills with the support and compassion each patient deserves.
