Dr. Erik Askenasy earned his medical degree at McGovern Medical School at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth. He completed his internship and general surgery residency at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, followed by a fellowship in colorectal surgery.

In practice since 2005, Dr. Askenasy is board certified in two areas: general surgery and colorectal surgery. He speaks Spanish and treats patients ages 18 and older. His primary clinical interests are colorectal surgery, rectal cancer, colon cancer, robotic surgery and endoluminal surgery.

Dr. Askenasy performs minimally invasive colon and rectal surgery with an emphasis on oncologic surgery and bowel surgery for inflammatory bowel disease (Crohn's or ulcerative colitis). His practice offers a fully integrated Enhanced Recovery Program, which allows patients to go home as early as the day of or day after bowel surgery. His patients appreciate that he is open, honest and very direct with information.

A resident of the Medical Center area, Dr. Askenasy is married and the father of two children. His favorite leisure activities are watching American Ninja Warriorcompetitions and rock climbing.
