Advanced practice provider Paulina Mensah is a board-certified family nurse practitioner who also holds a certificate in basic life support. She worked as a nurse for 11 years before becoming a nurse practitioner in 2012.

She earned an associate degree in nursing at San Jacinto College Central in Pasadena, Texas, and her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in nursing at Prairie View A&M.

The eldest of seven children, Paulina naturally took on a care-giving role within her family. That sense of care expanded and she discovered that sharing knowledge, particularly scientific insights, brought tangible improvements to people's lives, sparking her interest in the nursing career.

Paulina sees patients aged 3 and older. Her clinical interests include performing comprehensive physical exams, managing chronic conditions like hypertension, diabetes and lipid disorders and treating acute conditions such as upper respiratory infections, urinary tract infections, sexually transmitted diseases, gout and various injuries like bites and muscle strains. She also performs minor office procedures, including ear lavage and suture removals, and treats common skin and gastrointestinal issues.

She takes a holistic approach to patient care, prioritizing preventive health strategies while focusing on comprehensive management of chronic conditions. Formulating treatment plans that support patients’ goals result in better outcomes, she feels, especially when this is done while ensuring their physical, emotional and mental well-being.

She wants her patients to feel that she treats them with care and respect. It is her hope that they will be empowered by the information she provides and for them to know that treatment plans are personalized to meet their unique needs. Her greatest professional satisfaction comes from building strong connections with patients, understanding their unique needs and helping them work toward their holistic health goals.

Paulina is a member of the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners and Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing.

Away from her practice, spending time with family is her highest priority. She also enjoys traveling, listening to music, reading and sewing.
